William Morton Peck was born in 1887 at Carlton and was the son of Sarah Ann Holland née Peck of 51 Waters Row, Cemetery Road, Carlton, Nottingham. His mother Sarah Ann Holland born in 1868 at Carlton was married to William Holland in 1900 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. In 1911 he was living with his widowed grandfather William Peck 79 years a retired framework knitter, also living at the address is his aunt Eliza Peck 34 yrs, William Morton Peck is 24 yrs of age single and a cotton labourer they are living at 51 Waters Row, Cemetery Road, Carlton

Military History

Private William Peck enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Carlton, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on Killed in action, 1st July 1916, during the attack on Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at Gommecourt Wood New Cemetery, Foncquevillers, France. Plot 2, Row A, Grave 1.
