Thomas William White was born in 1898 at Sutton Bonnington and was the son of John Thomas a Midland Railway platelayer and Ruth White née James of Main St, Sutton Bonington. His father John Thomas was born in 1867 at Diesworth, Leicester his mother Ruth James was born in 1871 at Sutton Bonnington, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded at the Loughborough registration district they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Sutton Bonnington, Edith b1889, Nellie b1891, Hilda b1896. Thomas William b1898, Richard Arthur b1901, Margaret Eliza b1904, Jack James b1909 and George Ernest b1911. In the 1911 census the family are living at Sutton Bonnington and are shown as John Thomas White 44 yrs a Midland railway plate layer, he is living with his wife Ruth 40 yrs and their children, Hilda 15 yrs a griswold hosiery worker, Thoma William 12 yrs a scholar, Richard Arthur 10 yrs a scholar, Margaret Eliza 7 yrs, Jack James 2 yrs and George Ernest 1 month old.

Military History

Private Thomas William White enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Sutton B9onnington, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 10th October 1916 and is buried at Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France. grave reference 13A.F.22
