Family History

John Henry was born in Nottingham (however soldiers died in the Great War states he was born in Orston.) in 1893 and was the only son of John Husbands a lace maker and Annie Husbands, they had 5 children , Ethel Maria (b 1882 Nottingham), Beatrice A (b 1884 Nottingham) Geraldine (b 1889 Nottingham) and Lily May (b 1889 Nottingham) and John Henry (b 1893 Nottingham). In the 1901 census the family are living at 17 Palin Street, Hyson Green, John snr is a lace maker and is living with his wife and children , Ethel, Beatrice Geraldine, Lily May, Geraldine and John Henry. By the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Birkin Ave, Hyson Green, John snr is still a lace manufacturer and his family are all working in the lace industry, his son John Henry is by now 18 years of age, single and is working as a law clerk.

Military History

John enlisted in Bingham and gives his place of birth as Orston and also his place of residence as Orston. He served with the 1/6th battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 25th May 1917 and has no known grave. His name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
