Family History

Henry James was born in 1895 in Newmark, Suffolk and was the son of Henry James Box a jockey and groom and of Mary Louisa Box, Both Henry and Mary were born in Hampshire, they had 7 children , Henry James, Charles Frederick, Evelyn A, Victor Robert, Livorno, Reginald and Louis. In the 1901 census we find the family living at Church Lane , Bishop Sutton, Southampton. Henry snr is a Jockey/groom and is living at the address with his wife and their four children , Henry James, Charles Frederick, Evelyn A and Victor Robert. By the 1911 census the family have moved up to Aslockton, Henry snr states his occupation is that of a jockey , he is living in the village with his wife and six of their children , they have had a further 3 children since the 1910 census , Livorno born Bishop Sutton, Reginald born Bishop Sutton and Louis who had been born in Aslockton. Henry James in the 1911 census has left home and found himself a job on a local farm in Aslocton , he is 16 years of age and is a servant , a boy on the farm living at Brocker Farm, Aslocton with Richard Brown and his family At the time of his death his mother Mary was living at Queen St., Bottesford, Nottingham

Military History

When Henry enlisted at York , he was living at Elston on The Hill, Nottinghamshire and gave his birth place as Kentford, Suffolk. He initially served with service number 23872 in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He later transferred and served with service number 27928 in the 10th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 12th October 1918 and is buried in Neuville Communal Cemetery Extension, Neuville
