James William Arthur who was known to his family and friends as Arthur was born in the 3/4 1888 at Wyville, Lincs and was the son of Arthur Brooks Baker a wheelwright and joiner and his wife Sarah Ellen Baker (née Whittle) Arthur Brooks had been born in Harts Ground, Lincolnshire and his wife was born in Harlaxton, Lincolnshire. They were married in September quarter 1886 in the Grantham registration district and went on to have seven children , James William Arthur (b 1888 Wyville) Henry (B 1891 Orston) Elizabeth (b 1894 Orston) Florence (b1897 Orston) Frederick (b 1900 Orston) Constance Ann (b1903 Orston) and Albert John (b 1903 Orston) . James William Arthur Baker was baptised on 11th March 1897. in the Nottingham Registration area. It would appear that the Baker family moved into the Nottinghamshire area and took up residence in Orston. In the 1901 census they are living at Lombard Street , Orston , Arthur Baker is a wheelwright and joiner and living with him is his wife Sarah Ellen and their first five children :- Arthur, Henry, Elizabeth, Florence and Frederick. By the 1911 census , the family are still living on Lombard Street, Orston, with his wife Sarah and six of their children , Henry, Elisabeth, Florence, Frederick, Constance and Albert John. Their eldest son Arthur can also be found in the 1911 census although he has left home and we find him living at New Street Lutterworth , he is shown as Arthur Baker 22 years of age , head of the family and working as a grocers book keeper his place of birth is Wyville, Lincs , with him is his wife Sarah Ann Baker , 20 years born Hanslope, Buckinghamshire (her maiden name is Clarke) they have been married under one year and have a son George Arthur Baker , 1 month of age . Arthur married Sarah Ann CLARKE on 18th August 1910 at Grantham, Lincs and they had three children, Herbert Alfred born 02/08/1910 , at Newport Pagnall , George Arthur born 05/03/1911 at Lutterworth and Kenneth Leslie born 15/06/1912 at Lutterworth. Arthur enlisted on 10th August 1914 and served on the home front until his discharge in 13th October 1916 due to ill health. His death was registered in the Bingham registration area in the 1st quarter of 1918 aged 29 years. He died in the March Quarter of 1918

Arthur enlisted on 10th August 1914 at Coventry just after the outbreak of the war , his service record shows he was born at Wyville, Grantham, Lincs , his occupation was that of a clerk, he was living at 35 East Street, Coventry. His parents are listed as Arthur and Sarah Baker of Orston. Arthur served throughout his service on the home front from 10th August 14 until he was discharged on 13th October 1916. He was discharged following a hearing held by the medical board on 29th September when it was decided he was unfit for duty – with total disablement due to Phthisis Pulmonalis ( A type of TB ) . His case was reviewed until 1918. Upon his discharge he was issued with a silver badge number 51284. He died in ¼ 1918 , which was recorded at Bingham registration district as James W A Baker
