John Davis Buxton was born in 1898 at Bunny and was the son of Thomas Buxton a domestic gardener and Alice Buxton née Davis of 8 Cross Street, Long Eaton. His father Thomas Buxton was born in 1871 at Bradmore and his mother Alice Davis was born in 1878 at Leicester, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow Registration District, they went on to have three children all born in Bunny, John Davis b1898, Thomas Arthur b1901 and William b1904. In the 1911 census the family are living at 8 Cross Street, Long Eaton and are shown as Thomas 40 yrs a domestic gardener, he is living with his wife Alice 33 yrs and their children, John Davis 12 yrs a scholar, Thomas Arthur 10 yrs a scholar, and William 7 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private John Davis Buxton enlisted at Long Eaton and served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died of wounds at the 32nd stationary hospital in France and is buried at Wimereux Communal Cemetery grave reference 10.B.3A
