Harold Wilson was one of two children born to Jesse William Wilson and Elizabeth Culy who has married at Holbeach, Lincolnshire in 1895. Harold was born in 1900 at Hemsworth and his elder sister, Alberta Lavinia, born in Whaplode, Lincs in 1897. In 1901, Harold, Alberta and their mother, Elizabeth, was living with Elizabeth’s parents in Whaplode whilst their father, Jessie was living on his own in Ordsall, Retford and working as a railway parcel porter. By 1911, the roles were reversed. Jesse was resident at 81 Brecks Road, Ordsall, Retford with the children and Elizabeth was visiting Charles and Elsie Dowse at 8 Station Cottages, Retford.
Harold would have been about 15 years old at the declaration of war so probably joined the Buffs in the last year or two and went to France. He died of his wounds and was buried in the Quietiste Military Cemetery Le Cateau, France
