George Henry’s father was George West (1822 - 1880) a gun maker from Waltham in Lincolnshire. George Married Mary Ann Howlett (1824 - 1859) in Lincolnshire and had at least eight children. The eldest child was Amelia. Following the death of Mary, George married Eliza Wallis (1843 - 1889) from Quadring in Lincolnshire. They married in Spalding Lincolnshire in 1866. They moved to Retford and had five children; Cecil Max (1866 -), Edith Mary (1869 -), George Henry (1871), Frank Oldershaw (1874 -) and Margaret (1877 -). In 1881 the family lived at 3 Grove Street Retford. George senior had recently died and Eliza was a gun maker. In 1891, George Henry lived at Ordsall with his step sister Amelia who had married George Tallents. Her son George William Tallents was killed in April 1915 and appears next to his uncle George Henry West on the Retford memorial. In 1901 George Henry lived with his mother at 11 Grove Street Retford and in 1911 he was in Leicester boarding with the Flower family.
