Nathaniel was formerly 20553 in the Sherwood Foresters, before transferring to the Northumberland Fusiliers. He went to France on 14 July 1915. He died died of his wounds four days before the Battle of the Somme finally ended, which was on the 18 November 1916 with the onset of winter. As he has no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France
