Francis known as 'Frank' was born in 1899 in Retford and was the son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Flinton, (nee Jackson) of 9, Avenue Rd., Retford, his father Thomas died before 1901 when Frank was very young. In both the 1901 and 1911 census the family lived with their widowed mother Sarah Ann at 9 Avenue Road, Retford.
Frank enlisted at Retford and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys ) Regiment . He was taken prisoner of war and died whilst still in captivity. He is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany grave reference XIV F 2.
