Harold was born in 1894 in Sheffield, he married his wife Annie Elizabeth Stretton on 9th August 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Rawmarsh registration district, Yorkshire, following his death his widow was living at 43 Dale Street, Rosehill, Rotherham.
Sergeant Harold Edwin Woods enlisted on 5th September 1914 at Mexborough whilst residing at Rotherham and served initially with the York & Lancaster Regiment, he gave his age as 20 yrs. He landed in France on 28th February 1918 and was posted to the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment on 3rd August 1918. He was killed in action on 11th September 1918 and is buried in Gouzeacourt New British Cemetery, France grave reference VI.E.7
