Walter Anderson Porkess was born on 29th January 1888 and was the son of Uriah a builder and Eliza Jane Porkess, née Wilkin of 6, Deans Grove, Bargate, Great Grimsby, Lincs.His father Uriah was born in 1847 at Glen Ford, Brigg and his mother Eliza Jane Wilkin was born in 1842 at Caistor, they were married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Caistor registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born at Caistor, Annie Elizabeth b1875, William b1876, Maria Elizabeth b1878, John Wilkin b1879, Frank Bainton b1885 and Walter Anderson b1888.In the 1911 census his parents are living at 4 Deans Grove, Grimsby and are shown as Uriah Porkess 63 yrs a builder, he is living with his wife Eliza Jane 68 yrs and their daughter Maria Elizabeth 33 yrs single. In the same 1911 census we find Walter has left the family home and is living at 338-366 Holloway Road, Islington, London, he is shown as being 25 yrs of age single and a shop assistant.

Military History

Lieutenant Walter Anderson Porkess served with the Sherwood Rangers, he was attached to the 10th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, he was killed in action on 10th February 1917 and is buried at Chocques Military Cemetery, France.
