George Henry Oldfield was born in 1894 at Pilsley, Derbyshire and was the son of John a colliery deputy and Anne Oldfield née Churm of 21, Station Rd., Pilsley, Chesterfield. His father John was born in 1863 at Cathorpe, Derbyshire, his mother Ann Churm was born in 1869 in Shropshire, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Chesterfield Registration district, they went on to have the following children, Emily b1891 Pilsley, John Edward b1892 North Wingfield and George Henry b1894 Pilsley In the 1911 census George has left his home address, he is living at 1 Morvern Street, Creswell, he is living with Andrew Hallam 50 yrs a colliery deputy and his father, George is shown as being 16 yrs of age and is an butchers assistant and is a boarder. In the same 1911 census his parents are living at Station Road, Pilsley and are shown as John Oldfield 48 yrs a colliery deputy, he is living with his wife Ann 43 yrs a dress maker and their children, Emily 20 yrs a domestic servant and John Edward 18 yrs a coal miner.
Private George Henry Oldfield enlisted at East Retford, he served with the Sherwood Rangers. He died on 20th May 1918 from drowning in Egypt. He is buried at Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel.
