Family History

He was the son of William and Georgiana Foster of the Duke William Hotel Haxey Doncaster. His father was the hotel keeper. Born Fourth Quarter 1895 Baptised 24th July 1896 at Epworth, Lincolnshire On 1901 Census he is living with his parents and siblings – Archibald, Albert, William and Violet - at Duke William Hotel, Haxey. His father is listed as a hotel keeper. On 1911 Census he is boarding with the Shelton family at Letwell, Rotherham and working as a plough boy on a farm

Military History

Enlisted November 1914 10th / 11th April 1915: Regiment sailed from Avonmouth for service in Egypt. Fifteen officers travelled aboard the SS Minneapolis, with the remaining officers and men travelling on the SS Nessian. Five hundred and thirty one horses and mules together with the transport personnel travelled on the SS Wayfarer. The SS Minneapolis and SS Wayfarer left on the 10th and the SS Nessian left on the 11th. The SS Wayfarer was torpedoed on the journey and docked at Queenstown for repairs. Arrived at Egypt 27th April 1915. On arrival was dismounted. Died at Citadel Hospital, Cairo of Pneumonia on 6th June 1915
