His father is listed as a lighterman On 1901 Census he is living with his parents and siblings – Eileen, Bertha, Harold and Horace – at 55 Balby Street, Conisborough. His father is a boiler fireman in a coal mine and John is a lamp cleaner in coal mine. Married to Lily Webster 3rd Quarter 1908 On 1911 Census he was living with his wife and son Cyril at 18 Herbert Street, Mexborough. He is listed as a colliery boiler riveter

Bellamy with West Riding Royal Engineers. He enlisted at 16 and arrived in France on 10th October 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal. He survived the war and was transferred to Class Z Reserve on 11th April 1919
