Family History

Lawrence Charles Turner was born in 1893 and baptised on 9th December 1893 at St Mary's Church, Radcliffe on Trent, he was the son of Richard Joseph a wheelwright and later blacksmith and Kate Ellen Turner née Warburton of Main Road, Radcliffe on Trent. Richard Joseph was born in 1863 at Radcliffe, Kate Ellen Warburton was born in 1866 at Hyson Green, Nottingham, they were married on 16th September 1890 at St Mary's Church, Radcliffe and went on to have 5 children, Alice Gertrude b 1896, Dorothy Mary b1898, Harry Warburton b1899 and Bernard Richard b1908 all were born in Radcliffe. In 1911 the family are living at Cropwell Road, Radcliffe, Richard Joseph is 47 yrs and a carriage builder, living with his wife Kate Ellen 45 yrs and their 5 children, Lawrence Charles 18 yrs is a clerk.

Military History

Private Lawrence Charles Turner attested on September 24th 1914, at Nottingham giving his age as 21 yrs and 246 days, he was a clerk, he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 19th March 1915 and was wounded in action on 12th May 1915 near to Festubert, France. Gunshot wound to left hip.. He was returned to England on 17th May 1915 and was discharged from the Army on 25th April 1917 being no longer fit for war service. He died on 12th June 19123 and was buried at Radcliffe on 15th June 1923.
