He was the son of John William and Amelia Ann Locke and the brother of John Henry, Alice Gertrude, Amelia Ann and Thomas Andrew Locke. In 1911 they lived at 27 Seventh Street Wallsend Northumberland. Research by Colin Dannatt

Military History

Charles Locke enlisted after 1 January 1916 and joined the battalion in France. Three of the men killed on 19th August 1917 are buried at Tyne Cot cemetery - graves LXIV.G1; G3 and Charles in G.4. At 8-30 pm on the 19th a heavy barrage targeted battalion HQ and one shell killed three machine gunners (Lewis gunners from battalion) and wounded a number of men.
