Frederick was born in 1881 in Nottingham and was the son of Matthew an employee of the gas corporation and Sarah Ann Hage née Alcock who lived at 24 Grundy Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He had one brother Albert Radcliffe Hage born in 1879. His father Matthew was born in 1852 in Newark and his mother Sarah Ann Alcock was born in 1858 in Southwell, they married in 1874 in Nottingham. Frederick married Emma Hawes on 14th April 1906 at the St Michael Church, Wood Green, Haringey, Middlesex, he was shown as a batchelor 25 yrs living at Radford, Nottingham , she is shown as a spinster 24 yrs living at 'Riverside' Park Ave, Haringey, Middlesex. In 1908 their daughter Frances Freda is born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Fretwell Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as Fred 30 yrs head of the family a wages store clerk , he is living with is wife Emma and their daughter Frances Freda 3 yrs. Meanwhile in the same census his parents are living at 24 Grundy Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as Matthew 59 yrs head of the family a compliant attendant working for the corporation gas works and he is living with his wife Sarah Annie 74 yrs (sic) they state they have been married ro 35 yrs and have had 2 children. His brother Albert Ratcliffe Hage also appears on the 1911 census he is living at 68 Wordsworth Road, Nottingham he is 32 yrs head of the family a brass foundry clerk, he is living with his wife Edith Mary 37 years and his two children Francis 6 yrs and Albert 2 months of age. ,
Lance Corporal Frederick Hage, enlisted in Nottingham and served with 1/5th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 21st September 1918 and is buried in Bellicourt British Cemetery.
Extract from the 'Nottingham Evening Post,' dated 22nd September 1919 : - “HAGE. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Lce.-Corpl. Fred Hage, who fell in action Sept. 21st., 1918. – Always in the thoughts of his ever-loving wife [Emma] and children. “HAGE. – In loving memory of Lce.-Corpl.
