Frederick Ridley Archer was born in 1893 (registered Apr/May/Jun). No trace has yet been found of Frederick on the 1901/1911 census but there is a record of a James Ridley Archer who was born in Nottingham in 1890 and died the same year (both events registered Jan/Feb/Mar) who might have been his brother. According to the notice of his death in the local paper, Frederick was the son of the late Eliza Whittle and the husband of Elizabeth Archer; they had one child. There is a record of a marriage between a Frederick Archer and Elizabeth Yeomans in Nottingham in 1912 (Oct/Nov/Dec). There is also a record of the birth of a Frederick A Archer (mother's maiden name Yeomans) in 1913 (Apr/May/Jun).
He served in France from 25 February 1915. He died of wounds in a casualty clearing station and is buried in Chocques Military Cemetery (grave ref. I.L.17). He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
