Isaac Alexander was born in 1883 at Fishtoft, Lincolnshire, and was the son of Joseph a river side labourer and Betsy Alexander, his parents had a further 11 children. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Fishtoft, Lincolshire, and are shown as Joseph 70 yrs and Betsy 66 yrs. His mother died on 29 September 1915. Isaac married his wife Sarah Annie Dix (born 7th June 1880) in 1903; their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration District. They went on to have 2 sons Lawrence and Leonard both born 6th March 1906 and Joan Ruth born 27th June 1915 they lived at 55 Manning Street, Nottingham. In 1911 census they lived at 55 Manning Street, Nottingham, and were shown as Isaac 28 yrs a grocer and fruiter, who is living with his wife Annie 30 yrs and their 2 sons Lawrence 5yrs and Leonard 5 yrs. His probate was proven on 28th November 1917 at Nottingham and shows him as Isaac Alexander, 55 Manning Street, Nottingham a Private in HM Army died 20th October 1917 in France, effects of £454. 15 shillings and 4 pence. Administration to Annie Alexander, widow. His widow was still living at 55 Manning Street in 1921.
Gunner Isaac Alexander enlisted at Nottingham. He served with 'C' battery, 82nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He was killed in action on 20th October 1917 and is buried at Duhallow ADS Cemetery (Grave Reference: l E 38). A memorial service was held at the Wesleyan Chapel, Broad Street, Nottingham, on 18 November 1917.
