Family History

Charles Silvester was born in 1879 at Thrumpton and was the son of John a brewers carter and Caroline Ann Silvester née White. His father John was born in 1844 at Pinchbeck he died in 1903 aged 59 yrs and his mother Caroline Ann White was born in 1881 at Elm, Cambridgeshire, they were married in 1872 their marriage was recorded in the Wisbech registration district, they went on to have 17 children, 11 of whom sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, John b1872 Cambridgeshire, Sarah Ann 1873 Pinchbeck, Fanny Mary b1876 Sawley, Charles 1879 Thrumpton, Martha 1885 Gotham and Matthew Hardy b1887 Edwalton. Charles married his wife Charlotte Murden (born 1st October 1882 Wilford) in 1901 at Nottingham, they lived at Witham Yard, Wilford, Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Harry born 24th June 1903, Gladys 8th September 1905, Eva Ellen born 4th January 1913 and Evelyn born 27th June 1915. In the 1911 census the family are living at Witham Yard, Wilford and are shown as Charles Silvester 31 yrs a brewers carter, he is living with his wife Charlotte 29 yrs and their children Harry 7 yrs a svholar and Gladys 5 yrs of age Following his death his widow Charlotte was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 31st March 1919.

Military History

Private Charles Silvester enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Wilford, he served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 26th September 1918 and is buried at Wilford (St Wilfrid ) Churchyard West of Church Tower.
