John Richard Wilmot was born in 1892 he was the son of George a coal miner and Sarah Ann Wilmot and the brother of Maud, Alice, Sam, Nellie, May, Harry, Lily, Ida and Elsie Wilmot. George was born in 1859 at Edwinstowe, Sarah Ann was born in 1860 at Nottingham they were married C1878 they went on to have 10 children . In 1911 the family lived at 101 Bateman Street Hyson Green Nottingham, George 52 yrs is a coal miner, he is living with his wife Sarah 51 yrs and 8 of their children, John 19 yrs is a coal miner. (on the 1911 census they state they have been married for 33 yrs and have had 10 children all of whom had survived) John married Annie Freeman (born 10th August 1893 ) in 1916 at Nottingham, they lived at 24 Cavendish Street, Colwick Street and later 15 King's Place, Stoney Street, Nottingham. They had a daughter Ida born 25th April 1918. Commencing 22nd July 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Private John Richard Wilmot enlisted at Ilkeston he served with the 1st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He arrived in theatre (France) on 22nd June 1915 and was killed in action on 20th November 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
