Thomas (Tommy) Albert was the son of Thomas Edward and Annie Pinder (née Voce). His father Thomas Edward was born in Nottingham in 1872, the son of John Pinder, a provision dealer and lodging house keeper, and his wife Elizabeth. In 1892 the family lived on Red Lion Street, Nottingham. His mother Annie Voce was born in Nottingham in 1875 (reg. 1876 J/F/M), the daughter of Mary Ann Voce. Her mother married Samuel Walker at Nottingham St John in June 1879 and they had two children, Albert b. 1879 and Eliza b. 1899. In 1891 the family was living in Temple Place, Nottingham: Samuel who was an iron turner, his wife Mary a cotton winder, Annie (15) a lace clipper and scalloper, Albert (11) and Eliza (2). Samuel Walker died in 1900. Thomas Edward married Annie at Nottingham (Meadows) St Saviour in July 1898 and they had three children: Thomas Albert birth registered 1899 (J/F/M), Charles Henry b. 1900 and Annie b. 1907. In 1901 Thomas, a lithgraphic printer, Annie and their sons Thomas (2) and Charles (under 1 year) were living at 16 Healey Street, Nottingham. Also in the household was Annie's widowed mother Mary Walker, a cotton winder, and her children Albert, a tanner's labourer, and Eliza who was at school. By 1911 Thomas, a printer, and Annie, a grocer, with their three children were living at 86 Red Lion Street, Nottingham. Thomas Edward died in June 1913. His widow Annie was still living at 86 Red Lion Street when their son Thomas was killed in October 1918. Her second son, Charles, had joined the RAF in June of that year. Annie and her daughter Annie were both living in Bunbury Street, Meadows, in 1939 when the England and Wales Register was compiled. Annie snr. was a retail dealer (grocery) and her daughter a 'cutter-out'. Annie snr. died in 1956.
1/5th Bn The Prince of Wales' Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment) Thomas Albert Pinder enlisted at Nottingham. He was killed in action on 22nd October 1918 and is buried in Tournai Communal Cemetery Allied Extension, Belgium (grave ref. V.G.4). Many of the graves were brought in from other cemeteries in a wide area around Tournai.
His brother Charles Henry Pinder served in the RAF (260577) attesting on 21 June 1918 (age 17y 11m, occupation fitter). He transferred to the RAF Reserve on 2 March 1919.
