Ernest Daniel Jones was born in 1895 he was the son of Daniel a cycle machine fitter and Annie Maria Jones née Hoole of 13 Pierpont Street Nottingham. Daniel was born in 1875 at Nottingham, Annie Maria Hoole was born in 1874 at Loughborough, married in 1894 at Nottingham, they had 4 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, In 1911 the family lived at 12 Harrisons Yard, Carter Gate, Nottingham, Daniel 36 yrs a cycle machine fitter, living with his wife Annie Maria 37 yrs and their 2 sons Ernest Daniel 15 yrs a card board box maker and Clarance 5 yrs

Lance Corporal Ernest Daniel Jones enlisted at Nottingham, he was killed in action, 7th July 1916, age 21, whilst in the line near Givenchy, France, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg L'Avoue
