Family History

Cyril Hodgkinson was born in 1895 in Beeston and was the son Lawson a lace hand and Florence Hodgkinson née Carter of 33 Fyne Street, Nottingham. His father Lawson was born in 1866 in Beeston and his mother Florence Carter was born in 1857 in Birmingham, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District they went on to have 4 children all of whom were born in Beeston, Charles b1894, Cyril b1895, Elsie Maud b1897 and Frederick b1907. In the 1901 census the family are living at 14 Victor Terrace, Wollaton Road, Beeston. In the 1911 census the family lived at 33 Fyne Street, Nottingham and are shown as Lawson 57 yrs a lace hand, he is living with his wife Florence 54 yrs and their children Charles 25 yrs a news vendor, Cyril 20 yrs a new vendor, Elsie Maud 18 yrs a scholar and Frederick 14 yrs, ( it will be noted the ages given on this census do no correspond with the year of their birth )

Military History

Private Cyril Hodgkinson, enlisted at Birmingham whilst residing at Sneinton, Nottingham he served with the 12th (Pioneer) Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 11th June 1916. He is buried in Dranoutre Military Cemetery.
