Family History

William Hazard (junior) was born in 1880 at Nottingham and was the son of William Hazard (senior) a lace maker born 1846 in France and Phoebe Hazard born 1848 at Wolverton and the brother of William and Albert Hazard. In the 1901 they lived at 68 Coal Pit Lane Nottingham. William married Eliza Ann Heathcote in 1902 at Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Albert born 1st June 1902 and Lilian Hannah born 16th June 1907, his wife Eliza Ann died in 1911 at Nottingham, she was 29 yrs of age. Following his wife death his mother Phoebe became the guardian of his two children, they lived at 9 Wool Alley, Wool Pack Lane, Nottingham. His pension record card confirms the above details

Military History

Private William Hazard, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 12th (Labour) Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he died on 23rd December 1916 and is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery.

Extra Information

The date recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is 24th December 1916. “Soldiers Died” and the register of the disposal of his personal effects both give the date as 23rd.
