Arthur (Trot) Brady was born in 1875 in Nottigham and was the son of James Brady, a glazier, and Anne Brady née Bishop. In 1901 the family was living at 16 Bullocks Yard, Bellar Gate, Nottingham. His father Arthur was born in 1837 in Liverpool and his mother Anne Bishop was born in 1849 in Leeds. They were married in 1867 in Nottingham and went on to have the following children, all of whom were born in Nottingham: James b1868, Mary b1870, Kate b1872, John b1874, Arthur b1875, Mary b1877, Ellen b1879 and Ernest b1886. His father James died in 1906 in Nottingham, he was 70 years of age, and his mother Anne died in 1902 in Nottingham, she was 56 years of age. In the 1911 census Arthur Brady is living at 1 Byron Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham. He is shown as being 35 yrs single and a labourer. Arthur is boarding with Robert Baxter, 35 yrs, a chimney sweep, and his wife Edith Baxter, 34 yrs. Arthur marries Maria Lamb (born 16th February 1873 ) in 1915 in Nottingham they live at 2 Lion Terrace, Nottingham. Commencing 6th February 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 12 shillings and 6 pence a week.
Arthur Brady enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment. He landed in France on 31st March 1915 and he was killed in action or killed accidentally [1] on 31st July 1916. He is buried in Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe. [1] Most sources state he was killed in action but on his medal index card it states that he was killed as the result of an accident. His brother, Company Sergeant Major Ernest Michael Brady D.C.M. & Bar, Medaille Militaire, served with the 2nd and 6th Battalions Royal Irish Regiment. Notices of his death published on 12th August 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BRADY. – Killed in action, July 31st, Lance-Corpl. Arthur Brady (Trot). Fondly remembered. R.I.P. – Sorrowing wife and Reggie. “BRADY. – Killed in action, my dear brother (Trot). Eternal rest give unto him, O Lord. – Sorrowing sister Mary.” 'In memoriam' notices published 31st July 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BRADY. – In remembrance of Lance-Corpl. Arthur (Trot), killed in action July 31st, 1916. Sweet is the memory of departed worth. R.I.P. – Sorrowing wife and sister Mary. “BRADY. – In loving memory of our dear brother Arthur (Trot), Royal Irish Regt., killed in action July 31st, 1916. Gone, but memory still holds him dear. – Ernest & Ann.” 'In memoriam' notice published 31st July 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BRADY. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Lce.-Cpl. Arthur (Trot) Brady, Royal Irish Regt., killed in action July 31st, 1916. R.I.P.
