Cpl. Carrier had two brothers; George H., born 1882 at Bedford and Albert Lawrence, born 1900 at Nottingham. He also had four sisters;Beatrice A., born 1884 at Ramsgate, Florence Rose, born in 1886 at London, Mercy born in 1891 at Burnham, Buckinghamshire and Maud, born 1898 in Scotland.
The family lived at 75 Waterloo Promenade before moving to 33 Birrell Road, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham. Alfred Carrier married Gertrude Carrier and they lived at 19, Station Street, Nottingham. They had one son.

Alfred Carrier was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. He took part in the opening of the Third Battle of Ypres, where his battery was part of II Corps in the Fifth Army firing from the Dickebusch area on the western side of Ypres. They were involved in both bombardment and counter-battery work. Unfortunately Cpl. Cator was killed in action on 31/07/1917. He was buried at Dickebusch Ne Military Cemetery Extension.

Cpl. Cator was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
