Family History

Father: Herbert Burdell, born 1868 at Nottingham and working as a gas works labourer. Mother: Henrietta Burdell, born in 1869 at Nottingham. He had two brothers; Harold who died whilst very young and Leslie Alfred, born in 1905 in Nottingham. They family lived 77 Caroline Street, Peas Hill Road, Nottingham.

Military History

Gnr. Burdell was called up and following training he was drafted to France. He served with the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry before transferring to the Royal Garrison Artillery. He was killed in action on 19/10/1918 and was buried at Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension.
