Father: James Broadhead, born 1865 at Nottingham and working as a cabinet maker. Mother: Alice Broadhead, born in 1875 at Nottingham. He had four brothers; James, born 1897, Harold, born 1900, John B., born 1902 and Ernest, born 1907. He also had one sister, Lydia, born 1909. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 5 Enoch Terrace, Simon Street, Peas Hill Road, Nottingham. William was engaged to Elsie at the time of his death.
William Broadhead volunteered for service and following training was drafted to France on 09/12/1915. He served with the South Nottinghamshire Hussars, holding the number 1989. He later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps, training at Belton House, Grantham. William was wounded in action near the town of Le Cateau on 4 November 1918 and died of his wounds the same day, only a week before hostilities ceased. He was buried at Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref. II.C.24).

November 4th, died of wounds received that date in France, Pte W Broadhead, Machine Gun Corps, late SNH, dearly loved son of Mr and Mrs J Broadhead, 5, Enoch-terrace.
