L. Bdr. Bailey was called up for service, enlisting at Keighley, Yorkshire. Following training he was drafted to France, and his battery took part in the desperate fighting that followed the launch of the German offensive on the Lys, Operation Georgette. He was killed in action, but his body was never recovered. However, his name was commemorated at the Tyne Cot Memorial, Ypres.
