Harry was born in 1893 in Huntingdon he was the son of Mary Jemima Watson nee Green and the late Edward Watson joiner and carpenter of , 1, Park St., London Rd., Peterborough. His father Edward was born in 1852 in Whittlesy, Cambridgeshire, his mother Mary Jemmia Green was born in 1856 in Hull, Yorkshire, they were married in 1879, their marriage was recorded in the Peterborough Registration district , they had 6 children: Ernest b1881 Peterborough, Millicent Jane b1882 Peterborough Ada b1885 Saffron Walden, Arthur b1887 Huntingdon, Harry b1893 Huntingdon and William b1895 Huntingdon His father died in in 1911 aged 59 years, the death is recorded in the Basford Registration District. In the 1911 census the family are living at 163 High Street, Old Fletton, Peterborough, and are shown as Mary Jemmima Watson 55 yrs a widow head of the family , she is living with two of her children Harry 18 yrs a hairdresser and William John 16 yrs a motor trimmer. The family address in Nottingham at the time of Harry's death was was 19 Kensington Grove, Brierley Street, Nottingham
Cpl. Harry Watson, enlisted at Carlton Nottingham, on 14th April 1913, he gave his age as 21 yrs his occupation as that of a porter, and served with the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles). On 27th February 1915 he landed in France and joined the British Expeditionary Force. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 2nd June 1915 and Corporal on 12th September 1915. He was killed in action on 13th October 1915. He has no known grave,(although his army service records note the map reference of his burial, the grave was subsequently lost ) his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
