Family History

Richard Walker was born in 1893 the son of Richard Walker, a coal miner, who predeceased his son, and Sarah Ann Walker (née Moseley) of Whalley Bridge, Stockport Richard was born in 1853 at Tideswell and died in 1905 aged 53 yrs. Sarah Ann Moseley was born in 1854, also at Tideswell. Married in 1876, their marriage was recorded in the Bakewell registration district and they went on to have 10 children, two of whom died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family was living at Bings, Whalley Bridge, Stockport. Richard married Mary Hooley in 1911, their marriage was recorded in the Macclesfield registration district, and they had a daughter Marion born 19th August 1911. They lived at Macclesfield Road, Howicks End. Commencing 3rd March 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Private Richard Walker enlisted at Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. He died of wounds on 21st April 1918 and is buried at Hautmont Communal Cemetery (grave ref I.A.21)
