He was the husband of Florence M (née Simpson) Smith. His brother Percy also served in France.
He served with the 153rd Coy, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) having transferred from the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) (57182). He was reported missing on 16 May 1917 but his death was not confirmed until March the following year. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 10.
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged), 13 March 1918: ‘Smith. Private TP Smith, Machine Gun Corps, husband of FM Smith, reported missing May 16th, 1917 now reported killed, age 29. Wife, Floss, father, sisters, brother Percy in France.’
