He lived at 9 Bosworth Terrace, Briar Street, Meadows Nottingham. Herbert married Sarah Ann Wheelhouse in 1912 (O/N/D Nottingham) and the pension ledger record gives his dependants as: widow Sarah Hall b. 3 July 1894 and children Sarah Betsy Hall b. 2 July 1910 and Herbert George Hall b. 10 November 1912 (O/N/D Nottingham, d. 1992). However, there is no registration of the birth of a Sarah Betsy Hall or Sarah Betsy Wheelwright in 1910 (Nottinghamshire) but there is the birth of a Sarah B Hall in 1915 (J/A/S Nottingham, Wheelwright) who probably died in 1917 (O/N/D Nottingham). There is also a record of the birth of William C Hall 1914 (J/A/S Nottingham, Wheelhouse) who died in the same period 1914. Sarah Ann married Samuel Buswell in 1919 (J/F/M Nottingham).
7th Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers Herbert Hall was killed in action at Loos on 27 September 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France (Panel 46 to 49).
CWGC gives date of death as 27 September 1915. However, other military records give the date as 28 September or 25-28 September. Registers of Soldiers' Effects: legatee widow Sarah Ann Hall with payments for self and children.
