Roderick Kenneth Mackenzie was born in 1891 at Brighton and was the son of the late Roderick and Annie Agnes MacKenzie of 144 Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham. His father Roderick was born in 1848 in Manchester, he died in 1902 at Nottingham he was 54 yrs of age, his mother Annie Agnes was born in 1862 at Box Wiltshire, they were married C1887 and went on to have the following children, Marion b1889 Southampton, Wallis Alexander b1890 Liverpool, Roderick Kenneth b1891 Brighton, Keith b1897 Manchester, Margaret Isabella b1895 Bradford , Jessie b1898 Nottingham and Annie b1902 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family lived at 144 Blue Bell Hill Road Nottingham and were shown as Annie Agnes 49 yrs a widow , she is living with her children, Marion 22 yrs a lace jennier, Wallis Alexander a bot cutter, Roderick Kenneth 19 yrs a curtain manufacturer, Keith 14 yrs a motor clerk, Margaret Isabella 16 yrs a hosiery manufacturer, Jessie a grocery clerk and Annie 9 yrs a scholar.
Lance Corporal Roderick Kenneth Mackenzie enlisted at Nottingham, he served with The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) He was killed in action on 2nd July 1917 and is buried at Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery Grave Reference: I E 20
