Family History

Arthur Bancroft was born in 1879 at Caistor and was the son of Nicholson a brick layer and the late Mary Ann Bancroft née Parker of South Street, Caistor, Lincolnshire. His father Nicholson was born in 1848 at Osgodby and his mother Mary Ann Parker was born in 1848 at Barton, Lincolnshire, she died in 1909 at Caistor 61 yrs they were married in 1873 at Sculcoates, Yorkshire and went on to have the following children, Harry b1875 Caistor, Edith 1876, Ada b1877, Arthur b1879, Fred b1882 Charlotte b1884, Ethel b1887, David b1888 and Frank Bancroft b1893 all were born at Caistor. In 1901 they lived on South Street Caistor Lincolnshire. In the 1911 census the family are still living at Caistor and are shown as Nicholson 63 yrs a widowed bricklayer, he is living with his children, his married daughter Ada Hirst 33 yrs working at home, Fred 27 yrs a pork butcher and Frank 19 yrs of age no occupation listed.

Military History

Sergeant Arthur Bancroft enlisted at Market Rasen whilst residing at Caister, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 16th September 1916, he is buried at Buried in Faubourg d"Amiens Cemetery
