Family History

James Henry Turner was born in 1885 the son of the late Samuel a skinner and Margaret Turner née Salmon of Grantham. Samuel was born in 1837 at Radford, he died in 1885 aged 48 yrs Margaret Salmon was born in 1852 at Radford she died in 1906 aged 54 yrs, they were married in 1871 at Grantham, they went on to have 5 children. James Henry married Alice Wray (born 1st March 1885 ) in 1908 at Nottingham, they had the following children, Bertha born 15th April 1909, Beatrice Elizabeth born 30th January 1911 and Alice born 13th November 1913. In 1911 the family are living at 8 Queens Terrace, Lotus Street, Nottingham, James is 26 yrs and a sanitary labourer for the corporation, Alice also 26 yrs and their children Bertha 1 year and Beatrice 2 months old. Commencing 4th October 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Private James Henry Turner enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the Sherwood Foresters, he died of wounds on 18th March 1915 and is buried at Lillers Communal Cemetery.
