Family History

Frederick Thornton was born in 1879 at Nottingham, the son of the late Richard a labourer and Sarah Ann Thornton née Banks of Healey Street, Nottingham. Richard Thornton was born in 1845 at Nottingham, he died in 1893 aged 48 yrs Sarah Ann Banks was born in 1847 at Willoughby, she died in 1892 aged 45 yrs married in 1866 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children. Frederick married Ruth Goodson (born 20th September 1877) in 1907 at Nottingham, she brought 3 children to their marriage, Dorothy May Goodson born 5th June 1901, Nellie Goodson born 28th May 1903 and Annie Goodson born 23rd February 1905, they went on to have 2 further children, Eliza Thornton born 14th January 1908 and Frederick Thornton born 22nd June 1910. In 1911 the family lived at 7 Hartwell Terrace Nottingham.

Military History

Rifleman Frederick Thornton enlisted at Nottingham, he died of wounds on 25th May 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
