Family History

Albert Taylor was born in 1886 at St Ann's Nottingham and was the son of the late William Alfred Taylor a lace warper and Kate Taylor née Lovett of 30 Eastville Street, Woodborough Road, Nottingham. His father William Alfred was born in 1864 at Nottingham and died in 1907 at Nottingham aged 42 yrs, his mother Kate Lovett was also born in 1864 at Nottingham, they were married in 1883 at Nottingham and went on to have 10 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all born in St Ann's were , Albert b1886, Ernest 1890, Ethel 1893, Jeannie b1895, Arthur b1900, Florence b1904 and George b1906. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Herbert Street, Eastville Street, Nottingham and are shown as Kate 46 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Albert 25 yrs a railway porter, Ernest 21 yrs a printer paper ruler, Ethel 18 yrs a lace finisher, Jennie 16 yrs a lace jenner, Arthur 11 yrs a scholar, Florence 7 yrs a scholar and George 5 yrs.

Military History

Private Albert Taylor enlisted on 11th August 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 29 yrs and 62 days and his occupation as a town carter. He stated his father was deceased and his address was 3 Herbert Street, Nottingham, his mother Kate was his next of kin. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He embarked for France on 3rd May 1915 and was posted missing in action, later confirmed killed in action on 9th August 1915 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Town Menin Gate memorial.
