John Edward Roden was born in 1899, baptised on 6th August 1903 at St Alkmund Church, Derby the son of George Edward a cellar man and Sarah Ann Roden née Bullock and the brother of Bernard, Albert Victor and Muriel Wilhemena Roden of 31 Alison Rise, Alfred Street, Nottingham. George Edward was born in 1869 at Stonebroom, Derbyshire Sarah Anne Bullock was born in 1875 at Derby, they were married on 5th September 1897 at St Alkmund Church, Derby. In 1911 the family lived at lived at 4 Bradbury Street Sneinton Nottingham. George Edward 40 yrs is a cellarman, living with his wife Sarah and their 4 children.

Military History

Lance Corporal John Edward Roden enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 31007 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment). He was killed in action on 1st October 1918 and is buried at Flesquieres Hill British Cemetery, France.
