Family History

Arthur Herbert Player was born in 1889, baptised on 22nd May 1889 at St John's, Westminster and the son of Alexander Herbert a police constable and Jane Hannah Player née Robinson of 24 Heskey Street, Nottingham. Alexander Herbert was born in 1846 at Holborn, London, Jane Hannah Robinson was born in 1865 at Midwood Square, Yorkshire, they were married on 16th July 1888 in Chelsea, London, they had 8 children, sadly one died in infancy, the family appear to have moved to the Nottingham area before 1898 (birth of daughter Minnie 1898) In 1911 the family were living at 22 Heskey Street, Nottingham, Alexander is 65 yrs and a pensioner, his son Arthur Herbert 21 yrs is in the army.

Military History

Private Arthur Herbert Player enlisted in Nottingham, he was in the Army in the 1911 census. He was killed in action on 26th October 1914 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
