He was the son of James and Sarah Elizabeth (née Oldham) Platts and the brother of Louisa Elizabeth (b.1878), Amy Gertrude (b.1882), Arthur Henry (b.1884) , Ellen Florence (b.1890) and James Archibald (b.1892) Platts. In 1881, the family lived at 258, Sherwood Street and in 1891 on Trafalgar Street, Radford (both Nottingham). By 1901, they had moved to 19, Lytton Street, St Ann's Nottingham. George Platts married Emma Henson (b.1/4/1884) at Nottingham O/N/D/1904 and in 1911 they lived at 1, Selbourne Street, Pym Street, St Ann's. With effect from 3/11/1918, Emma Platts was awarded a weekly pension of 13/9d. She was living by then at 15, Albert Avenue, Bobbers Mill, Nottingham. Emma married Frederick Nicholls at Nottingham in 1921.
George Ernest Platts attested 8/12/1915 (probably under Lord Derby's Scheme) and was mobilsed 7/9/1916. He was awarded a Silver War Badge (160565), discharged 7/4/1917 (sick) and died from pulmonary tuberculosis 7/8/1918 (Pension Record via Fold3).
FreeBMD cites 35 as age of death but Platts's birth was registered J/F/M/1881 and he is on the 1881 Census aged 0. There are no CWGC or UKSWD records for George Ernest Platts. Research by David Nunn
