Family History

Hedley Stewart Parsons was born in 1893 in Nottingham and was the only son of George Leopold Parsons a gasworks tinman and Maria Parsons née Bosworth of 129 Woodborough Road Nottingham. His father George Leopold was born in 1854 in Weston Somerset, he was married twice , his first wife was Elizabeth Ann Bosworth (b1851 in Lincoln) whom he married in in 1878 in Nottingham , with her he had three children Lillian b1879, Edith May b1882 and George b1883 all were born in Nottingham, he lost his first wife Elizabeth who died in Nottingham in 1890 aged 39 yrs. He married his second wife Maria Bosworth (b1854 in Nottingham) in 1892 in Nottingham , they went on to have their only son Hedley Stewart Parsons born 1893 in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 129 Woodborough Road, Nottingham and are shown as George Parsons 57 yrs a tinman in a gas works , he is living with his wife Maria 53 yrs a dealer and shop keeper of a confectioners, and his children Lillian 32 yrs a lace pattern girl, Edith May 29 yrs a lace pattern girl and Hedley 17 yrs a shop assistant in a confectioners.

Military History

Private Hedley Stewart Parsons, enlisted in Nottingham and served with “C” Company, 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), he was taken prisoner on 21st March 1918. He died of pneumonia whilst a prisoner of war on 10th August 1918. He is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

In memoriam published 8th November 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “PARSONS. – On the 10th August, of pneumonia, Pte. Hedley S. Parsons, Sherwood Foresters, aged 24, the beloved youngest son of George and Maria Parsons, 119 Woodborough-road, Nottingham. Duty nobly done.” “PARSONS. – In loving memory of Pte. Hedley S. Parsons, 2/7 Sherwood Foresters, who died August 10th, 1918, whilst a prisoner of war in Germany. Sadly missed by mother, father, sister.” In memoriam published in on 13th August 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “PARSONS. – In loving memory of Pte. Hedley S. Parsons, 2/7 Sherwood Foresters, who died August 10th, 1918, whilst a prisoner of war in Germany.
