Family History

Charles Herbert Finch was born in 1883 the son of Albert John a shop fitter and Mary Ann Finch (née Barratt.) Married in 1883 at Edmonton, London, they had three other children all born in North London Amy, Lilian Mary and Kate. In 1911 they lived in Hornsey, London. Charles Herbert married Catherine Field (born 1881 Halesworth, Suffolk ) at the Parish Church Braintree, Essex on 11th December 1905. They had the following children, Kate Annie Beatrice born 12/12/1905 at Braintree, Francis Charles born 21/06/1907 Nottingham, Albert John born 25/02/1908 Nottingham, Margaret Phyllis born 22/01/1911 Nottingham, Leonard Sidney born 11/03/1913 Nottingham and Joe born 27/01/1915 Nottingham. In 1911 they lived at 85 Marple Street Woodborough Road Nottingham. With effect from 6/8/1917, Kate received a weekly pension of 33/9d.

Military History

Charles Herbert Finch enlisted in Nottingham on 28th May 1915 and was posted to the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters and later the 19th battalion. On 1st September 1915 was posted to the 25th battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was admitted to the Carrington Military Hospital, Nottingham where at 0600 hrs on 21st January 1917 he died, according to his army service record from VDH (valvular disease of the heart).He is buried in the General Cemetery Nottingham.
