Family History

Bertrand Stanley Cobb was born in 1897 in Nottingham and was the son of Joseph Green a druggist traveller and Maria Wilkins Cobb née Hall of 35 Exeter Road, Nottingham. His father Joseph Green Cobb was born in 1873 in Nottingham and his mother Maria Wilkins Hall was born in 1874 also in Nottingham, they were married in 1895 in Nottingham and went on to have 3 children, sadly one was to die in infancy their surviving children were Bertrand Stanley b1897 and Leslie George b1905 both born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 35 Exeter Road, Nottingham and are shown as Joseph Green Cobb 38 yrs a druggist traveller, he is living with his wife Maria Wilkins Cobb 37 yrs and their 2 children, Bertrand Stanley 14 yrs a packer in druggist store and Leslie George 6 yrs.

Military History

Private Bertrand Stanley Cobb attested on 30th January 1916 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 19 yrs and 7 months, his address as 38 Huntingdon Street, Nottingham and his occupation as that of a printer, his next of kin was his father Joseph Green Cobb of the same address. The following day he was posted to the reserves. On 11th March 1916 he was mobilised for war, he was given a medical examination and found to be medically unfit to serve and once again posted to the reserves. On 26th February he was called up and by 1st March 1917 he was posted to the Durham Light Infantry. He arrived at Etaples Camp on 13th September 1917 and on 23rd September 1917 he was posted to the King's Own (Royal Lancaster ) Regiment. He was wounded a gun shot wound to his thigh on 10th May 1918 and died as a result of this wound on 11th May 1918. He is buried in Pernes British Cemetery, France, grave reference II.B.41
