Family History

Robert Adams (junior) was born in 1894 at Nottingham and was the son of Robert Adams (senior) a lace maker and his first wife Clara Adams née Walker they lived at 23 Marple Street Alfred Street North Nottingham. His father Robert Adams (senior) was born in Sneinton in 1866 and his mother Clara Walker was born in 1866 in Nottingham, she died in 1898 in Nottingham she was 32 yrs of age, they were married in Nottingham in 1888 and went on to have 4 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Herbert b1889 and Robert b1894 both were born in Nottingham. His father went on to re marry in 1899 at Nottingham to Eliza Watson. In the 1911 census the family are living at 23 Marple Street, Nottingham and are shown as Robert 45 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his second wife Eliza Adams 46 yrs and his married son Herbert 22 yrs a vulcaniser and his daughter in law Kathleen 22 yrs and his second son Robert 17 yrs a fitter, also living at the address is Harry Wainwright 7 yrs a grandson.

Military History

Rifleman Robert Adams, enlisted on 10th September 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 20 yrs and 27 days, his address was 69 Marple Street, his next of kin was his father Robert Adams of the same address. He was posted to the 13th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he joined them at the depot at Winchester on 13th September 1914. He landed in France on 30th July 1915 and was killed in action on 14th November 1916. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, The Somme, France.
