Arthur Thomas Pritchard was born in 1889 at Nottingham and was the son of Mark and his first wife the late Emma Pritchard, née Holmes of Nottingham. His father Mark was born in 1864 at Olveston, Gloucestershire, his mother Emma Holmes was born in 1866 at Lincoln, she died in 1903 aged 37 yrs they were married in 1886 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Charles William b1888, Arthur Thomas b1889, George Edgar b1893, Albert Harry b1897 and Ivy Nellie b1899 all were born in Nottingham. His father remarried in 1904 at Nottingham to Mary Elizabeth Cartledge. Arthur Thomas married his wife Gladys Mary Barnes (born 1st November 1891 Ilkeston) in 1910 at Nottingham, they lived at 88, Noel St., Nottingham and had the following children, Beryl Irene born 25th July 1911 and Edith Frida born 30th June 1913. In the 1911 census Arthur Thomas is living at 8 Hedly Villas, New Basford with his widowed mother in law Anne Barnes 59 yrs, a furniture dealer, he is shown as being 22 yrs and a railway clerk, with him is his new wife Gladys 19 yrs. In the same 1911 census his father Mark 47 yrs is living at 255 Woodborough Road, Nottingham, he is shown as being a servant a foreman in a corn warehouse he is living with his second wife Mary Elizabeth 49 yrs and his children, Albert Harry 14 yrs a picture framer and Ivy Nellie 12 yrs a scholar, the family are living with the head of the house Henry Bowman Armitage 55 yrs a widow and corn merchant. Following Arthurs death his widow Gladys was awarded a pension of 19 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 25th September 1916.
Sergeant Arthur Thomas Pritchard, enlisted in Leicester on 7th September 1914 giving his place of residence as Syston, Leicester his age as 25 yrs and 176 days, he was a clerk and was married He served with 9th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and was promoted to Corporal on 2nd December 1914 and to Sergeant on 29th June 1915. He landed in France on 29th July 1915 and died of wounds 13th March 1916 at the 48th Field Ambulance in France and is buried in Buried Humbercamps Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref I.C.11).

Pritchard, Leicesters, who died in France March 13th, 1916. He like a soldier fell. R.I.P. – His loving wife. “PRITCHARD. – In loving memory of my darling daddy, who died of wounds March 13th, 1916.
