One, 12594 Pte JW Clarke, served with the 9th Bn; his next of kin lived in Mansfield. The other is the more likely identity: 266510 Pte JW Clarke 1st/7th Bn who was killed, age 34, on 27/04/1917 and buried in the Canadian Cemetery No 2, Neuville-St. Vaast. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Clarke, of 12, Leen Side, Nottingham.
