There are two CWGC records for JW Clarke, Sherwood Foresters, both holding the rank of private and with first names 'Joseph William'. One, 12594 Pte JW Clarke, served with the 9th Bn; his next of kin lived in Mansfield. The other is the more likely identity: 266510 Pte JW Clarke 1st/7th Bn who was killed, age 34, on 27/04/1917 and buried in the Canadian Cemetery No 2, Neuville-St. Vaast. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Clarke, of 12, Leen Side, Nottingham.
