Family History

George Wilkinson was born in 1897 at Nottingham, his foster mother was his aunt Sabina Allcock of 2 Lavender Street, Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham. In 1911 Sabina Allcock is 49 yrs of age , she is a widow and is living with 3 of her children none of which were George Wilkinson.

Military History

Private George Wilkinson attested on 17th January 1916 at Nottingham, giving his age as 19 years and 10 months his address as 2 Lavender Street, Nottingham, he was a lace maker his next of kin was his brother Frank Wilkinson (later amended to his aunt Sabina Allcock who became his foster mother.) Posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 21st February 1916 and reported to the Derby Depot where he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. Transferred to the Royal Scots, on 14th April 1916 he landed in France on 2nd February 1917. He was discharged from the Army on 10th July 1917 due to chronic tuberculosis he was awarded a Silver War Badge 220684. He died on 3rd July 1918 and is buried at Nottingham General Hospital.
